Letters in Gear

Hello random person!

My name is Renawyn, but you can call me Rena, or just Ren.  Most people have lasts names, but I don’t.  I tried to go with Hypergear once but I got funny looks.  I’m an orphan, you see.  One of many on my world honestly.  Not much story before that, I was too young to remember.

I decided to write this letter on impulse.  I keep telling myself no one will get it.  You see, on my world, people sometimes put messages in glass bottles, then seal them up and throw them in the ocean.  Sometimes other people find them, and sometimes they just make really yucky debris at the bottom.  It doesn’t happen often.  It’s not a very reliable way of communicating, after all.

Anyway, I thought, what fun it would be to do that on a universal level!  What do I mean by that?  Well, our world has portals to another planet in the universe.  Our two worlds share an old connection via magic.  BUT, this other world exploded into bits.  Okay, maybe not bits, there are still large areas of land from it sorta hanging around in space with a breathable atmosphere and nothing but the twisting nether beyond.  That’s what we call the raw, magical reservoir beyond.  Some believe the power for our magic comes from it, others say it’s too dangerous a source to use.  It’s the ocean beyond that planet.

Anyway, I can’t throw this bottle into the sky at my home planet, it’ll just fall right back down.  I can’t go high enough in the air before I’ll suffocate.  BUT, on this other planet (we call it Outlands, the natives call it Draenor), with all its broken up pieces, I can get my flyer close enough that I can just chuck the bottle into space and maybe some body will get it on a whole new planet.  I’m not entirely sure how Outlands is still livable, honestly, you know?  I would think a breathable atmosphere and gravity would go hand in hand, with these broken, jagged pieces of land just floating in space.  Each has gravity, you can’t jump unnaturally high, float, or fly without the right equipment or magic.  I’m more interested in uncovering the mysteries hiding in ruins, especially underwater!

So, if on your world, you find this letter, which I decided not to put in a glass bottle, but in an adamantite casing to preserve it better, it really did come from beyond space, all the way to you!  I suppose maybe you can’t read it, but maybe you have magic too, or maybe in some weird way we just happen to speak and read the same language!  Wouldn’t that be weird?  Or maybe somehow it’ll just find its way home to me in Azeroth.  To be honest, I’m not sure where Azeroth lies relative to Outlands.  Somewhere out there beyond the twisting nether, I imagine, but which direction?  I don’t really know.  Maybe it’s one of those big planets you can see in the sky so clearly from Nagrand (a large valley-like area of Outlands).

If this message found its way to another person who can actually read it, that would be its own special kind of magic.  Destiny!  Do you believe in destiny?

Fortunate wishes,

– Renawyn Hypergear

Got a response?  Leave it in comments and see if it gets back to Ren 😉  Any character you like can play and we don’t have to specify how in the world they understand each other or how the letters make it to and fro.  Also, it of course doesn’t count as part of the established lore of our respective stories and worlds.

Note:  Renawyn is my own character, but I’ve not yet discovered enough of a story to move her out of her world of origin and into my own fictional world.  As such, she is a roleplayed character in the game, World of Warcraft.  That world and its rules belongs to Blizzard, the parent company.  Want to play?  By all means I’d love it if you let me know beforehand.  I can send you a recruit-a-friend email and we can both get all kinds of rewards.

About Saronai

I'm an eclectic amalgam of confusingly combined oddities. PS If I liked your post it means I really liked your post. You don't have to visit back, but it would be nice. Either way, I read it because I wanted to and liked it because I did. I don't do the fake like for returns thing :)
